At Thomastown Secondary College Language teaching is designed to enable all students to learn a Language Other Than English (LOTE). Language learning is for all students in Australian schools, with individual students bringing their own linguistic and cultural background to their learning, whether this is English, the target language or various combinations of languages.
The organization of the curriculum addresses the learner background in each language and takes into account different entry points into languages across years 7 to 10.
The Languages curriculum aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to ensure that students can communicate in the language they are learning. It helps students to develop an understanding of the relationship between language, culture and learning and to develop intercultural understanding.
